Dacia Vita Mia - Dialoghi Giapponesi

LOCANDINA-dacia-vita-mia.jpg

An intimate journey between Rome and Japan in the footsteps of memory, Dacia, My Life – Japanese Dialogues weaves the voice of Dacia Maraini together with archival footage, fading drawings, and encounters that illuminate a destiny intertwined between two cultures. The director, Izumi Chiaraluce, a silent and complicit witness, gathers the threads of a personal and collective narrative: a childhood in a snow-covered Japan, the prison camp, art as a form of resistance, the legacy of her parents, her sister Yuki, theatre, and books. Dacia's words become a bridge between distant worlds, between past and present. A unique and profound portrait, paced by the slow time of memory and the vibrant rhythm of curiosity. A tribute to the gentle strength of a woman who has made writing, photography, and dialogue her home.

I asked Andrea Guerra to compose the music for Dacia, My Life – Japanese Dialogues because his sensitivity transforms emotions into soundscapes. Alongside him, the Japanese musician Kyung mi Lee, the evocative pieces by Alvin Curran, and the intense music of Yuki Maraini, Dacia's sister, created a unique musical fabric, capable of uniting cultures and memories.

"Every evening I was amazed to still be alive because in the camp, death was an everyday occurrence... What I understood, over time, is that if you manage to overcome this feeling of the end, something is preserved."
